Updated April 21, 2013

Welcome! There have been many changes over the course of the last year and a delay in the release of The Door Into Summer; Gary Davenport's next album. It is still in the works with the exact release date undetermined but happening late this year.

Alchemy is now the name of the band supporting Gary.  Alchemy is in rehearsal preparing for live performance and for recording. There have been changes to the band's personnel. The newest member of the group is Brandon Bombardier on lead guitar. Kevin Lewis is now on bass guitar. Fred Masinter is on violin. Dylan Martin is on drums and percussion. Gary Davenport is on vocals, guitar, keyboards. Both Brandon and Dylan are also with the group Triaxe.

Halcyon is the newest group to be on the roster at MuseMyth. An album is slated for release in the autumn of this year and is being recorded at Edit Point Studios.

Halcyon is:
Genevieve Davenport-cello, vocals. Candace Jordan-cello, vocals. John Kliewer-bass guitar. Gary Davenport-vocals, guitar, loops, keyboards. Halcyon has 2 shows on May 10; one at noon for the Science of Sound which will be recorded and televised during the summer and later that evening at Imagine Books & Records.

MuseMyth is proud to announce that the group Mannequin that Gary was a member of 30 plus years ago will be seeing the release of their LP that was intended for release in 1981. It was mixed and mastered just a few short weeks ago and is in the process of being manufactured. It will be available on both vinyl and CD. The projected release date is June 2013. It was mixed and mastered at Edit Point Studios by Donnie Meals and will be on the Closet Records label; a subsidiary label of MuseMyth.

What follows below is the text to introduce the launching of the MuseMyth Recordings label and Wonder Slips Away album/CD. It has been left on for the sake of posterity.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Gary Davenport Releases CD, Wonder Slips Away

Gary Davenport, founding member of Mannequin, Red Square, and Himmel is releasing a CD “Wonder Slips Away,” on the newly formed MuseMyth label. The CD features fifteen songs recorded with core group members--Fred Masinter, violin; Kevin Lewis, 5-string bass; and Raul Garcia, drums and percussion.

Also appearing on the recording is Gib Wharton who has previously recorded and performed with Cassandra Wilson, Laurie Anderson, and Van Morrison; Cari Palazzolo, singer/songwriter of Belaire; Rob Meyer, formerly with the San Antonio Symphony on trumpet; Richard Potter on flute and saxophone; Will Willard from the Gilliam Section on electric lead guitar; and multi-instrumentalist, Val Cronk; and many others.

The songs were recorded by Eugene Ng at Krazy Kat and by Donnie Meals at Edit Point with the recording being produced by Donnie Meals and Gary Davenport.

Davenport states, “These songs are highly personal yet I believe they will appeal to all audiences. Like the title of the CD states, wonder has a tendency to slip away. I’ve tried to capture and convey that sense of wonder in my music.”

Davenport has been an integral part of the San Antonio music scene since 1976 fronting such well known bands as Mannequin and Red Square whose release, “Lemmings and Saviors” achieved critical acclaim well beyond the local music scene.

At the same time Davenport wishes to announce the formation of MuseMyth; a label devoted to promoting not only his own recordings but the works of other independent artists. Davenport previously co-founded Closet Records, a label that produced such interesting artists as, Mannequin, The Rejects, and Mike Escamilla; and also the seminal compilation LP, “As Raindrops Become Ocean.”

Davenport will be performing songs Wonder Slips Away for Fredstock to be simulcast on KSYM at San Antonio College campus, Thursday, April 15, 2010. A release party for the CD/album will follow on Friday, June 18, 2010 at Pho Sure (formerly the Big Kahuna), 721 W. Ashby across the street from the San Pedro Playhouse with a live performance there as well.

  • Pho Sure (phone) 210-733-8473: 741 West Ashby, San Antonio, Texas, USA (MAP)
  • The performance at Pho Sure to set the maiden voyage for "Wonder Slips Away" was a success and did well even with critics. The performance began quietly with the song, "Eric" and ended with the exotic, "Gilgamesh" accompanied by Bob Catlin and Quinn Mathews both on tambouras. Contributing also to 'Gilgamesh' were Gil Garza on trombone and Rob Meyer on trumpet.   In addition  to these guest musicians were Val Cronk on keyboards and daughter Genevieve Davenport on vocals. The core band contributed splendidly and guided things through steadily. They are:  Fred Masinter on violin, Gus Wanner on mandolin and guitar, John Thurston on electric upright bass and Chapman Stick, and Raul Garcia on drums and percussion. Though electrical outages (3 times) interrupted the flow of the event, the power was restored promptly. Also, though the show was intended to launch "Wonder Slips Away" at least 40% of the show was material not yet recorded and slated for the next CD.  Besides "Eric" and "Gilgamesh" ,  the instrumental pieces "Sufi" and "Zapotec" were also performed from the upcoming album.
Opening the show were INDO from Austin. Their performance was also met by a very receptive audience as they demonstrated their effectiveness in live performance.
